Finds from a Four-Hour Metal Deteccting Hunt. |
In the past few days I showed what can happen when you revisit a site that is producing, which I recommend.
Mark recently showed his finds after metal detecting the same site on three successive days. As is often the case, he hit gold on the second day after clearing out a lot of coins the first day and finally a diamond ring on the third day along with an older coin.
The photos I'm showing today are the finds from two hunts at a shallow water hot spot. I visited the beach one day and found great conditions and many good targets. I hunted for four hours and found what is shown in the photo at the top of the post. There were twenty dollars in quarters alone. I knew there were many more good targets remaining, but I had to leave for an appointment. I knew I wasn't done with this site, so I planned to return the next day.
On the second day, I found the items shown in the item below. On the second day, I spend about the same amount of time before I had to leave again, but as I left I could see the heavy clouds of a front coming through. When I returned the next day, the site was totally filled in again. The window that was open for two days closed.
I should have hunted the site longer on the first two days, but I only got in the two four-hour hunts. Too bad I couldn't spend more time. There is no telling how much I could have found. That is the way beach hunting goes.
Even when it appears everything has been found, there can still be a lot more there. That is a lesson I learned and as a result will hit the same ground over and over.
Land sites are not as subject to massive changes due to weather, but there are other things that can close up a land site.

Thanks to Mike A. who was at Frederick Douglass beach yesterday and sent these photos.
Thanks Mike.
I'm sure we'll be getting more details on the events.
