12/22/24 Report - Missing 1715 Fleet Gold Coins. Reale Escudo. Where You Can Get Research Materials. Mystery Item.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

I've posted the story before, but I'm not sure I posted the article from the Smithsonian Magazine. To refresh your memory, here is the first paragraph.

Officials have recovered a cache of coins that was stolen nearly a decade ago from 18th-century shipwrecks off Florida’s coast. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commision (FWC), the hoard is worth more than $1 million....

Here is that link.

Thanks to Dan B. for that link.

I bring it up again because it is receiving a lot of attention and someone asked if I had a picture of the "two escudo stamped with a two reale die" that was found by the Schmitt family.  I don't recall posting or talking about that, but I can't remember everything I've posted over the years.  I think I would have remembered that one though because it would have caught my attention, and I probably would have spent some time studying it.  If anyone knows if I posted that and where, please let me know.  Certainly sounds like an interesting subject for additional research.  If you know where I can find a picture of that coin, please let me know.

Warren D. said he found a place to where they were selling a lot of old treasure magazines and books.  Here is what he said.

I've found a source of old treasure hunting books and magazines at a used bookstore in Melbourne, Fl. at Renninger's Flea Market Row I at I95 exit 183.

Examples - Lost treasure, East and West treasure magazines from the 70's, 80's, 90's, etc.
Old treasure story books, Florida Historical Society Quarterly books from the 40's, 50's, etc.
Books on Dowsing, Shipwrecks, Indian battlefields, great place for treasure research sites with maps in Florida and other states.

The bookstore owner was a treasure hunter, metal detectorist and book collector.

For decades, common scientific knowledge has held that homo sapiens—human beings as we know them today—evolved in Africa. some 200,000 years ago. But a new fossil discovery in another part of the world seemingly flips that notion on its head.

Scientists recently identified a new fossil ape, which they named Anadoluvius turkae, at an 8.7 million-year-old site near Çankırı in northern Turkey. The findings were first published in the Nature Communications Biology Journal as research into this possible ancestor is ongoing.

The research, study co-author David Begun said, "suggest[s] that hominins not only evolved in western and central Europe but spent over five million years evolving there and spreading to the eastern Mediterranean before eventually dispersing into Africa, probably as a consequence of changing environments and diminishing forests."

Here is that link.

New Fossil Suggests Humans Didn't Originate in Africa

I really don't put much confidence in this one-way or the other.

I'm really getting tired of how the social media sites draw attention to content by providing such exaggerated leads and titles.  Very misleading.  So much dishonesty.

We've had a couple days of north wind and surf, but nothing big going on.  The high tides are smaller.

Good hunting,
