Valuable One Dollar Bill Found.

Take a look.  Can you identify what makes this dollar bill special?

Look at te serial number.  It is 00000001.  

I've been checking the bills that pass through my hands for a couple years now and the smallest serial number I've found began with four zeroes.  That is pretty good.  Some collectors might be interested, but this particular bill was in poor condition, which, of course, never helps.

A Parkersburg, Georgia man struck ‘serial’ gold in his vending machine—a $1 bill so rare, it’s practically currency royalty.

In a surprising twist of luck, Calvin Westfall, a vending machine operator and collector of coins and paper money in Parkersburg, Georgia, stumbled upon a treasure hiding in plain sight—a $1 bill with a serial number that’s the envy of numismatists: G00000001I. This bill, part of the 2013 Series G, is the very first printed in its series.

Bills with low serial numbers, especially a coveted No. 1, rarely enter circulation. Such notes are often reserved for collectors or sold through specialized channels. However, this gem found its way into Westfall’s soda pop vending machine approximately four months ago...

I'd bet it would sell for BIG money.  I wouldn't expect to anything close if I looked for the rest of my life.

Find by Mark G.

A few days ago, I posted the the above find made by Mark G.  Mark visited McClarty and the Fisher museum and a couple other places to get opinions on the coin.  He also got an XRF analysis, which came out as shown below. The Florenza Cross is the most clearly seen feature of the coin and is typical of those seen on 1715 Fleet coins of the Treasure Coast.

The XRF analysis reads 96.85 Silver, 2.28 Copper and 0.173 Gold.

The consensus seems to be that the reale is genuine and the XRF results are in line with that.

So here it seems we have a Treasure Coast reale found in what was likely fill sand for a parking lot area.
