2/12/25 Report - Very Valuable and Rare Massachusetts Colonial Threepence. Post-War Ephemera. Time for Treasure Consignment Again.

Massachusetts  Colonial Threepence.

The coin shown above is a record-breaking colonial threepence from Pre-Revolution America

It is a rare 1652 Massachusetts threepence, one of the first coins minted in colonial America that sold for a record $2.53 million by Stack’s Bowers Galleries.

The coin was discovered in 2016 inside an old cabinet in Amsterdam. It was accompanied by a note reading, "Silver token unknown/ From Quincy Family/B. Ma. Dec 1798," suggesting a connection to the Quincy family of Boston. This family included Abigail Adams, wife of John Adams, the second U.S. president. The coin, the size of a modern-day nickel, weighs only 1.1 grams and has a present silver market value of $1.03...

I've found things in old chests and books. Below is one that I recently found.

You might remember the Spiegel catalogs, which were like the Sears and Penny's catalogs.

It is in excellent condition. I had to research to find its age.

Speigel Coupon.

Spiegel Catalog was a well-known American retailer that dominated the mail-order business for several decades. Founded in 1865, the company was once a pioneering force in the direct-to-customer sales industry. However, the rise of online shopping and changing consumer preferences eventually led to Spiegel’s decline.

In 2003, Spiegel filed for bankruptcy and subsequently closed over 400 stores. The company’s efforts to reorganize and restructure ultimately failed, and Spiegel closed its remaining stores in 2005.

Other Side of the Same Coupon.

Wallace Starglew stainless flatware is the tableware made by the Wallace Company, and Starglow is the pattern or style.

Below is what I learned about that.
Wallace Starglow flatware was introduced in 1949. This pattern features a sleek, mid-century modern design with a soft, flowing pattern that is often associated with the elegance and style of the post-war era.  (ChatGPT).
I remember my mother told me that there was a plan that she used to purchase a piece of silverware every month or something like that until an entire set was purchased.  I wouldn't be surprised if this coupon was from a similar program in the post-war period.
