In the Marion County mountains, it's not unusual for the annual draw down of water from the Willamette Valley reservoirs in preparation for winter storms to reveal the foundations of Old Detroit.

But the West's historic draught has apparently caused new remnants of the underwater ghost town - abandoned and flooded with the construction of a dam in 1952 - to emerge from the mud of Detroit Lake...

DJ sent me a link to the calendar for Indian River County beach closings.  Here is the part that shows the closings for the rest of February.

Yesterday I talked about statistical reasoning and distributions. The principles are very useful, whether you are talking metal detecting measurements, viruses, probabilities, confidence levels or whatever. I know I didn't do a good job but hope you found something useful in it. I'm sure some did not. A good understanding of statistical reasoning is one of the two most useful things I ever learned. The other is operational definitions.

I'll be doing more metal detector tests and eventually bringing it together and summing it up.

Brown Poison Bottle.

This 3-inch tall heavily embossed brown poison bottle was locally found. I just posted it in my tgbottlebarn.blogspot.com site though I don't know anything more about it other than what can be clearly seen on the bottle itself.
