12/7/22 Report - Object Uncovered on Daytona Beach. Atocha Emerald Sold By Investor To Help Ukranians. Bigger Surf Coming.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

Object Uncovered by Erosion on Daytona Beach.
Source See NYTimes link below.

There’s something protruding through the sand at Daytona Beach Shores in Volusia County, Fla., and it’s got local residents and officials buzzing with curiosity.

The unknown object was recently discovered by beachgoers and Volusia County Beach Safety, county officials said in a series of statements by email.

They said the object was visible in part because of beach erosion caused by Hurricane Nicole, which ripped through Florida last month, and by Hurricane Ian, which hit the state in September and was one of the most powerful storms to strike the United States in the past decade. Continued high tides and rough surf also played a role in the object’s discovery, just south of Daytona Beach.

The object appears to be made of wood and metal and to be about 80 feet long, officials said. It could not be roped off because water submerges it during high tide...

Here a couple links for more on that story.  (Thanks to Rick B., who sent these links.)

"It is a mystery," Malphurs said, according to the Times' report...

Florida's underwater archaeological team has been contacted to investigate the object, according to WESH and the Times'...

As for what the object could be, theories floating around online point toward a shipwreck, an old pier, a barrier or even seating from NASCAR's old beach races — though nothing official has been released or confirmed...

What do you think it is?

I'm voting for an ancient UFO.  Just kidding.

The archaeologists visited the stie, and it is starting to look like it is an 1800s shipwreck.

So it looks like Friday the surf will reach close to eight or nine feet.  Notice the wind direction arrows, which show a brief period of north winds just before the increase in surf.  You'll see that very often.

The high tides remain pretty high.

Also notice that after Friday the Treasure Coast is predicted to get continued high surf for a while with another period of north winds followed by east winds.

Good hunting,

12/6/22 Report - Spanish Shipwreck Ingot Found On Beach by Treasure Coast Detectorist. Hoard of Medieval Coins Found. Late Tropical Activity.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

Treasure Coast Silver Spash Ingot Metal Detector Find.

This is what I call an truly excellent beach finds.  You don't find those every day.  In fact, you are lucky to find one in a lifetime, but they have been found before.   It is a small Spanish shipwreck silver splash ingot showing a great tax stamp imprint.

Not many ingots of any sort have been found on the Treasure Coast beaches.  Salvagers have found some like this one in the water, and a some have been found on Treasure Coast beaches in the past - but not often.

Those are the only details I can give on this one for now.

Metal detectorists have unearthed what may be one of the largest hoards of coins ever discovered in Scotland, in a field in the southwest of the country.

The hoard is made up of more than 8,400 silver coins that date from the medieval period, mostly from the 13th and 14th centuries.

Ken McNab, a spokesman for the Scottish government, told Live Science that many of the coins are "Edwardian pennies" named after King Edward I, who reigned in England from 1272 to 1307.

Finding any coins in Scotland is rare, and this hoard is especially large. "This is the biggest medieval coin hoard found in Scotland since the 19th century," McNab told Live Science in an email...

There is a December low pressure zone that has about a fifty percent chance of strenthening in the next few days.  That is a little unusual for this time of year.

Source: nhc.noaa.gov.

Looking at the ICON model on ventusky.com shows it not moving any closer to use though.  It looks like after a couple days of very little movement; it could move off to the northeast.

It does look like we'll get some higher surf before long.

Six to nine feet on Friday could help us.  I'll look at some of the other variables Wednesday or Thursday.

12/5/22 Report - Artifacts From "Ship of Gold" Sold At Auction. New Discoveries in Ancient Egypt. Bigger Surf Coming to Treasure Coast.

Written by the Treasureguide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

On December 3, 2022 many fascinating artifacts from the S. S. Central America were auctioned.

Here is the link to that article.

Thanka to SuperRick for that link.

And here is the link to the auction site that shows the lots and the realized prices.

Really cool stuff.

I know some people aren't much interested in auction results, but these auctions provide a great opportunity to become familiar with a wide range of coins, artifacts, and other items. It is very helpful to make a quick identification of dug items when you are detecting. Too many times I failed to recognize the identity and therefore importance of a dug item. Your finds can provide important clues that will tell you how to proceed. They can tell you to bear down and give the area a really intensive hunt.

I don't like to spend a lot of time inspecting items in the field, but I've too many times made the mistake of not recognizing a good find and moving on to other areas too quickly. A find can change the entire complexion of an area. especially when you learn that an area holds better older and better items than you thought.

An Egyptian archaeological mission has unearthed a new part of the Quweisna necropolis in Menoufiya governorate that is replete in mummies with golden tongues.

The discovery was made during excavations carried out in the central Nile Delta governorate in the past three months at the necropolis.
.
The mission also found a collection of clay pots, golden sheets in the shape of scarabs and lotus flowers, as well as a number of funerary stony amulets, scarabs, and vessels from the late ancient Egyptian, Ptolemaic, and Roman periods....

I saw some really cool finds from this year that I hope to be able to post for you in the near future. They include some finds that are better than the great finds that I've already posted.

Looks like the surf won't be decreasing as predicted days ago. Not only will the surf height be holding through the week, but it looks like Friday, we'll have a nice increase.

The high tides are nice and high.

Later today we are predicted to have an north wind.

1858 One Cent Sight Find by Robby Groch.

The above 1858 One Cent coin was a sight find by Robby Groch.  Robby is a teen detectorist but saw this coin on the surface of an old path that I've also hunted in the past.  In fact, I was up there a few weeks ago and took a walk down the same old West Viginia path.

Below is a view taken from the path when the last of the leaves were falling.

W. Va. Hillside This Fall.

It is a special place to me for several reasons, one of which is my ancestors were among the early settlers to the area.   If you want an interesting read, get one of the books about Lewis Wetzel.  He and his brother were captured by the Indians and escaped.  One of the things Lewis was known for was his ability to reload a musket on the run, which would seem impossible, but he surprised many Indians that way.

A scientist who worked closely with a US-funded Wuhan lab has claimed that Covid was genetically engineered and leaked from the Chinese facility.

Dr Andrew Huff, the former vice president of EcoHealth Alliance, called the pandemic 'one of the greatest cover-ups in history' and the 'biggest US intelligence failure since 9/11.'

In his expert opinion, whistleblower Huff believes that grant funding provided by Anthony Fauci by way of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to EcoHealth Alliance, was linked to the 'creation of SARS-CoV-2.'

He claims NIH '[funded] gain-of-function work and the US intelligence community was aware of and appeared to have been involved' with this work.

Gain-of-function (GOF) work has been widely believed to have been created SARS-CoV-2, Huff stressing that it was key in creating the aggressive and contagious disease...

The high tides are still pretty high, and it looks like the surf won't decrease much in the next few days, and on top of that, there is the hope of some higher surf yet.

12/3/22 Report - Beach Metal Detecting Conditions On Some Beaches Today. A Couple Beaches Still Closed.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

Wabasso Still Closed Friday.

Wabsso was still closed Friday.  Walton Rocks was still closed Saturday and is scheculed to be reopened Dec. 24.

I talked to one of the parks people at the beach about a week ago who said it would be closed a while.  They were supposedly looking for a new beach to use as a dog park in the mean time.  Work to clear the parking lot at Walton Rocks, which was a few feet deep in washed over beach sand.  Someone left a nice new SUV in the parking lot, and after the storm sand was almost up to the windows on the car.  Thanks to DJ for sending me screen shots on the status of Walton Rocks.

I took four photos this morning, but my photos were no good, so I'll just show you what I saw.

The beaches I saw on South Hutchinson Island were little changed since yesterday.  Down by the waterline at Frederick Douglass there was just a few inches of sand over shells, which contained a lot of old mangled aluminum bits.  There were a few lead targets as well.  There were some beaches that presented coin lines thought.  Blind Creek and South Jett Park were two.  You could pick up quite a few modern coins on those beaches and whatever else might happen to pop up in between coins.  I didn't run into any shipwreck items today.

I only saw one other detectorist this morning.  That surprised me.  I expected more.

Below are some photos from the Vero area as viewed Friday.  As I said, of the beaches that i saw, little changed since yesterday.

As you can see, the surf will be decreasing only slightly.

I don't know how I fouled up my photos today.  Sorry.

And then I almost forgot to do my post.  I was doing Christmas decorations.

If you found some reales after Nicole, I'd like to see them after you clean them up.  I have a couple I planned to clean and photograph, but haven't got around to it yet.

There will be a triathlon on South Hutchinson Island Sunday.  I don't know what that will be like.

12/2/22 Report = State of Some of the Treasure Coast Beaches This Morning. Frederick Douglass, John Brooks and Turtle Trail.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

Frederick Douglass Beach Friday Morning.

I went out this morning to see how the beaches were developing after the front came through and the surf increased.

Above is Frederick Douglass beach.

Frederick Douglass Beach Friday Morning.

At Frederick Douglass and John Brooks there were a lot of aluminum targets on the beach front, but also some heavier lead targets.

John Brooks Beach Friday Morning.

You can see the footprints above, but the sand was pretty firm near the low tide water line. There were shells under not deep under the sand.

High Tide Line On John Brooks Beach Friday Morning.

You can see how high the water was at last night's high tide. It was pretty high. There is a lot of sand that got pushed up at John Brooks.

12/1/22 Report - Sunken Castle. Some Treasure Coast Beach Photos. Bigger Surf Coming.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

Source: MagicSeaWeed.com

The main thing today is the front coming through.  The wind has been blowing from the north today and the surf is going to increase up to a peak of 4 -7 feet tomorrow.   That is kind of borderline.  It is enough to do some good if everything else is right.  The high tides are pretty high yet, but not as high as recently.

A group of divers was looking for a sea monster in the waters of Lake Van, in Eastern Turkey and they made a rather amazing discovery.  In the middle of the 3,555 square kilometres that make this lake the largest in the country, they were surprised to see an incredible historical site. A mysterious castle appeared in the depths of the lake.

This vast, sunken castle is 3,000 years old and was built by the Urartu people, a kingdom established between the 6th and 9th centuries BC. The first question that comes to mind is how could such a castle have been built underwater in the Iron Age.

Like any other castle of the time, it was built when the water level in the lake was minimal. And when the water level rose, the inhabitants were of course forced to leave. Today, the lake is 150 metres deep...

Here is the link for more about that.

Gaylen sent me the following email and photos.  As he said, they are from Monday.

It's a tad late, but here are a few photos from Monday morning . Starting at Seagrape access, a shot of both north and south, and then one of the beach approaching Disney. There was some gray (black?) sand showing only on the beach directly behind Disney. Wabasso still closed, but men were working on repairs to the stairways. I found nothing but some small old iron plate scraps, fish hooks and trash, and one small piece I've yet to determine the metal.
For future reference please let me know if these photo files are too large. Keep up the good work, it's much appreciated.
