6/4/23 Report - Checking Tides and Tide Charts. Next Sedwick Auction. A Few Finds. America's Fate.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

Above and below you will see tide charts from tideschart.com.  That site, recommended to me by Mitch King not long ago, presents charts for many locations.  It is a great site.

I know some people have trouble hitting the high or low tide at their favorite spot.  It isn't always easy. Not only will you not find charts for every possible location, but there are a few confounding variables that you might have to take into account.  The most important one of those is the wind.

The effect of the wind on sea level, and therefore on tidal heights and times, is variable and depends largely on the topography of the area. In general it can be said that the wind will raise the level of the sea in the direction towards which it is blowing. This effect is often called wind setup. A strong wind blowing onshore will pile up the water and cause the sea level to be higher than predicted, while winds blowing off the land will have the reverse effect.

If you can't find a chart for your specific location, you might have to add or subtract some time from the chart for a location that is near yours.

I never worried too much about the tide when I was really hitting the beaches heavy.  I would go when I could and adapt to the tide, perhaps shifting from hunting the wet sand to the dry sand or whatever.  Now I can only go when I get a chance, and I can't be picky about whether it is high or low tide.  I have to go when I can.

As with all online data, you should validate the predictions with your own personal observations.  You might find some sites and charts very accurate and others not so accurate.

You might not find a chart for your particular location.  In that case, you might learn from experience that you need to add or subtract a certain number of minutes from the times given for a nearby location.

Below I'll give some examples from the tideschart.com site.

The chart above is for Jupiter, Lake Worth Creek.  Beside each chart you will see a small map showing the specific location for the predicted tides.  I'll give an example of that below.  This location is on the Intercoastal Waterway (ICWW).

Of course, I'm not showing all the charts.  There are a variety for the Stuart area.

There are a number of charts for the Vero and Fort Pierce areas, including the one below for the Fort Pierce South Causeway.

As I said, beside each tide chart is a small map showing the more specific location for the chart.  Below is the one showing the location for the Fort Pierce Causeway chart shown above.

As you can see, that location is inside the inlet near the port and the popular causeway beach.

You can probably find a chart for the area near the location you are interested in.  Be sure to do a good search on the site.

If you are interested an area on the Intercoastal Waterway, you will probably have to add or subtract some time from another charted location.  It might be as much as an hour or two, depending upon how far the site of interest is from the inlet or other charted location.

To sum it up, search the location well to find the most appropriate chart for you area or areas of interest.  Validate the predictions with your personal observations, remembering to take into account the wind and other factors.   If you are interested in locations that are not shown, it won't take long for you to learn how much time you have to add or subtract from the predicted time to adjust for your specific location.

A Few Iron Finds From A Suspected
Shipwreck Site on the Intercoastal.

I've been looking at a site on the intercoastal where I suspect a possible shipwreck or piece of a shipwreck.  I found these iron objects there as well as the following shards.

A Couple Shards Found on a
Suspected Shipwreck Location.

These shards are very different.  The whitish bottom one is much thinner.

Former doctor for Trump, Obama slams White House's 'malpractice' in allowing Biden to seek re-election (msn.com)

It isn't Biden's fault.  The public must make good decisions.  But are they interested, informed and capable of making decisions that are good for the country?  Maybe we should include as many uninterested and uninformed voters as possible.  And include those who see the country as evil and want to bring it down.  Maybe the time for America is over.

The windy.com site is now showing 5 - 7 foot waves for late Monday.  The various models are in pretty good agreement now.  The swells aren't that big, and the angles don't look that good.

I'll see how accurate all that is.  I'll be testing windy.com as it translates to beach conditions.

In time I expect to have something better than the MSW charts.

Good hunting,
