Shipboard cannon found off the Swedish coast may be the oldest in Europe

An international research team led by maritime archaeologist Staffan von Arbin of the University of Gothenburg has studied what might be Europe’s oldest shipboard cannon. The cannon was found in the sea off Marstrand on the Swedish west coast and dates back to the 14th century.

The findings from the interdisciplinary study contribute new knowledge about the early development of artillery on land and at sea, but also bears witness to a troubled period for seafarers as well as coastal populations...

DJ went out to Wabasso Friday and said he saw pretty much the same kind of beach conditions I saw on Thursday on South Hutchinson Island.

Lee has moved north but fifteen is now coming our way, but it looks like it will pretty much follow the path of Lee.

Here is the morning surf chart from SurfGuru.

Maybe we'll get a little higher surf next weekend too.

Right now the Treasure Coast is getting a five- or six-foot surf.  The high tides are nice and high, and there is a bit of a west wind.  The surf is east/northeast.  Not too different from yesterday, but it sound ok for surfing, but I'm not expecting erosion for most beaches.

I'll be watching to see ow Fifteen develops.  At this point I don't expect a lot.

The past two or three years the October/November period, especially November,, produced some of the best hunting and finds.

I know it is getting a little boring, but if you adjust, you can still make some finds.  Hunt out the dips and locations where there has been a little erosion from features that are obstacles to the normal flow of sand.  There are some coins and a little jewelry out there, even if it is scarce in most places.

Off topic, but you might want to know about - or you might not.  Warning - it won't cheer you up.
