10/20/24 Report - Saturday's Treasure Coast Beaches Conditions and Photos. Oscar To Turn Back Out to Atlantic.

Written by the TreasrureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

John Brooks Saturday Afternoon.

This was what often happens when a front comes through.  We get a north wind followed by a quick change in wind direction.  The result is that the beach cuts and then the wind and surf changes direction and the erosion is over.

I took these photos Sturday afternoon.

John Brooks Beach Saturday Afternoon.

If you go back and compare these photos with those, I took a couple days ago, you'll see that the cuts have pretty much disappeared.  You can still see where the cuts were, but they have been smoothed out.

Surf at John Brooks.

The surf was hitting the beach straight on today, as it was yesterday, so the continuing high tides and high surf were no help.

Walton Rocks Beach Saturday Afternoon.

The same kind of thing happened at Walton Rocks.

Walto Rocks Beach Saturday Afternoon.

If you walked up around the bend you could see where there was a larger cut, most of which is still there.  Too bad there is still so much renourishment sand.

Six Foot Cut Saturday Afternoon.

As I said yesterday, the angles didn't look good.

So now there is Oscar, but Oscar is supposed to turn and go back into the Atlantic.

We'll have continued rough surf and high tides but the angles aren't good.  That is one thing I put a lot of emphasis on over the years.  Before that most people talked about big waves and northeasters, which were known to produce some of the best hunting, but actually, as I think I mentioned the other day, northeasters aren't much good unless they are more northerly, because of the angle of the Treasure Coast coastline, which does not run strictly north/south.  So unless you have a more northerly flow, a northeastern will hit the beaches straight on.  A north wind is more effective in creating erosion on the Treasure Coast - even a north/northwest wind.

Our recent front had a very north wind/surf, but quickly changed to a more easterly (actually northeasterly) direction, and the erosion to most beaches was over.

Sunday morning we were having a more northerly wind for a little while.

Good hunting,
