Thursday Treasure Coast Finds by Mike T. |
Mike T. sent the following note along with these find photos.
Mike T here from Stuart. Lots of wind from this first cold front of our fall season! I got out this morning with my girlfriend and my good buddy to see some serious cuts running as far as we could see. We found one spot out of a few that was really eroded so we spent our time on it. The gold men’s band was my first target I couldn’t believe it.The smaller gold ring came a bit later from a hard packed shell area as well as the dental bridge.
My girlfriend Erinn found a very old bronze square nail in the same zone and my buddy got a nice silver ring.
Lots more wind on the way so We’ll be out again tomorrow.
Mike T's message and experience illustrates the top two factors of my formula for metal detecting success.
As I've often said, you can't detect the entire beach, and cuts divide the beach into more manageable sections. Cuts also show where the water was working and provide clues to what areas (or locations) might be most productive.
Michael and his friends found a good looking spot. They took some time to hunt for the hot spot.
The top two factors in my formula for metal detecting success are location and time. The spent the time necessary to find a good location.
The more you are out there, the better you know what is going on at different beaches. If you show up and randomly begin hunting, you won't have near the success that you would have if you took the time to analyze the beach and then go out and check around to find the best spots.

Neither of those systems look like they'll impact us much. The yellow one is expected to stay south and fizzle out and the red one should move directly west.

As you can see there is more good surf coming, but I'm not encouraged by the angles. Despite the decades of talk about northeasters in the treasure community, due to the angle of most of the Treasure Coast beaches do better with a north wind and even a northwest wind.
The very high tides are continuing.
Good hunting,
