Amateur treasure hunter finds $2.5M gold headpiece from Henry VIII’s lost crown.
Kevin Duckett was hunting for treasure with his metal detector in a field near Market Harborough, Northamptonshire, England, when he unearthed a solid gold figurine that experts believe is part of a long-lost part of the crown of Henry VIII.
“At first I wondered if it was a crumpled foil dish from a 1970s Mr. Kipling product, or even a gold milk bottle top,” Duckett told the Sun.
“I got a very loud positive signal from my detector and started to dig down before spotting something … It was lodged in the side of a hole just a few inches down.”
Duckett had found a 2½-inch, solid gold and enamel figure that has been lost for over 400 years...

1715 Fleet Anchor In Front of the Indian River Shores Town Hall. Photo submitted by DJ. |
The above anchor has a plaque identifying it as a 1715 Fleet anchor.
DJ also provided the following information.
In the 80s, two friends found and floated two anchors to shore near Jaycee beach in Vero. They used 50 and 5 gallon empty oil drums they filled with air from scuba tanks. I don’t think the wreck was ever identified but this was near the boiler wreck. They did that one summer with the help of a crowd and a tow truck and just wanted to dress up the beach park. Took them several days each. The anchors stayed there for a long time but were moved after the park was renovated after the 04 hurricanes. Thanks DJ.

I got additional information from Aquanut John on the anchor shown at the top of yesterday's post.
Hey guy, that anchor identified as being off the Anchor Wreck is incorrect. It was brought up by myself, Mike Maquire and the Hahn brothers circa 1994. We brought it up from 90’ of water, 15 miles straight out from the Sebastian inlet, no where near the Anchor wreck.Aquanut John
I also received a couple emails concerning the United We Stand button that I showed yesterday.
Jorge Y. found this one listed on eBay as an 1820s Jacksonian button.
And JamminJack found this image on CivilWarButtons.com.
Thanks guys.

In case you didn't notice - the price of silver was over $29.00 per oz. yesterday. If you have a few ounces of scrap silver, it might be a decent time to do something with it.
Be careful, though, there has been a lot of market volatility lately. That is another subject.

As you can see the surf today is only supposed to be two or three feet. We are getting an offshore wind and a bit of a northeast primary swell.
Maybe we'll get some bigger surf next week.
I still wouldn't be surprised to see some little cuts on some beach fronts today.
Thanks much to all of you who contribute. We are all better informed when we help each other.
Happy hunting,
