2/3/22 Report - Holocaust Pendants Discovered. Shema. What's Coming. Meteorite Found By Detectorist.

Three Pendants Found at Holocaust Site.

Archaeologists in Poland have discovered three pendants that belonged to people who were murdered at Sobibor, a Nazi death camp in eastern Poland.

The researchers discovered two of the pendants in places where Holocaust victims were forced to undress before guards herded them into gas chambers; they discovered the third pendant near a mass grave at the death camp, according to the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA).

Here is that link.

The middle pendant bears the Shema.

Hebrew is read right to left, so roughly translated it reads: Hear! O Israel.  Our God is one Lord.

It is really much deeper, but those are basically the words.

You'll find it as Deuteronomy 6:4 in the Bible.

Recently I posted a simple collector's guide to meteorites.  One reader, Richard W. and his wife found a meteorite, which was entered into the Meteoritical Bulletin database.

They found the meteorite with their first metal detector and donated the meteorite to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Below is a small part of the database listing.

Cotopaxi

Femont County, Colorado, USA

Found 10/08/2000

Iron (Ungrouped, IAB complex)

Richard and Sharon Walker found a single mass of 243 g while prospecting for gold samples on a forested hillside with a metal detector. The meteorite was buried about 20cm deep in soil under a small tree and the mass was intergrown with the tree roots. Classification and analysis (J. Wasson, UCLA): Metal composition determined by INAA is: Ni = 9.8%, Co = 0.50%, Ga = 48 mm/g, As = 17m g/g, Ir = 1.4 mg/g, Au = 1.7mg/g. The composition is unique compared to all other known meteorites. Cotopaxi is an ungrouped member of the IAB complex.  Type specimens: 21.43 g, UCLA; 20.33 g, Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Main mass (190 g): Denver Museum of Nature and Science .

Very cool.  It is nice to have a discovery listed in a database like that.

Thanks for sharing Richard.

Here is what I think is a very thought-provoking video.

Elon Musk - People Don't Realize What's Coming! - YouTube

I don't agree with some of the thinking - especially about the age distribution of the population and sustainability.  There is a lot that could be done to much more effectively utilize skill and talent, including its identification and development in the young, and changing the nature of work and retirement, and utilizing knowledge and skill of the older portion of the population.  Our nation is going in the opposite direction on that now.  Youth in particular are being dumbed down and sidelined, and a major part of the population is being made dependent rather than being developed and inspired to experience the adventure of contributing.

But to me, Elon's concluding statement in the video is the most telling.  He says, "I'm just trying to think of the future and not be sad."

Great genius can take you no farther than the sadness of another unsolved problem until you fill the hole within.

Hear! O, Israel.  The Lord thy God is One.

Not bad.  Could produce some interesting spots.

We'll be having some decent tides, including some negative lows.

Happy hunting,
