Father discovered a medieval English gold coin worth a record $875,000 on the first day he tried out his new metal detector.

A father was encouraged by his children to take up his old hobby of metal detecting.

On his first day using the new detector he dug up a medieval gold coin from the 13th century.

The coin has sold at a London auction for £648,000 ($878,778).

When his children were born, Michael Leigh-Mallory gave up his passion for metal detecting. Now, 10 and 13, they encouraged him to take up the hobby again. On the first day he used his new metal detector, he found the oldest gold coin in England, dating back to the 13th century.

"The day after it arrived, I went out into this field. It was a bright, sunny day, and within 15 minutes, I found the coin. I knew it was gold, but I had no idea how important it was," Leigh-Mallory told the Guardian...

Thanks Mitch.

I don't know why they picked the peak of tourist season to shut down some of those beaches, but according to the Indian River County web site, Seagrape and Turtle Trail are closed too.

The dunes around the Disney resort have produced some nice finds over the years.  One day a tourist came up to me and showed me an arrowhead she found in front of the resort after some erosion.  She asked if it was what she thought it was.  Seems like it will be a long time before those dunes ever open up again.

Surprising that those who were so adamantly on the wrong side of the lockdowns don't have the integrity to acknowledge the science when it is now so clear.

The one thing I was very wrong about is I didn't think so much of the population would be so subservient.

I haven't been able to get to the beach lately.  Hope to soon.

Happy hunting,
