A treasure of 17th century gold coins has been discovered during renovation of a mansion in Plozévet, Brittany, northwestern France. The coins were found in 2019 when the mansion’s owners, Véronique and François Mion, decided to connect two buildings (a barn and a plant nursery). Three stonemasons working on an interior wall came across a metal box filled with gold coins embedded in the wall. Three days later, they found a fabric bag of coins stashed over a beam on another wall.

A Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter will employ subsurface radar, although, as you'd imagine, isn't very good - not what you'd need for most treasure hunting.

The Shallow Subsurface Radar (SHARAD) will seek liquid or frozen water in the first few hundreds of feet (up to 1 kilometer) of Mars' crust.

SHARAD will probe the subsurface using radar waves using a 15-25 MHz frequency band in order to get the desired high depth resolution.

The radar wave return, which is captured by the SHARAD antenna, is sensitive to changes in the electrical reflection characteristics of the rock, sand, and any water present in the surface and subsurface. Water, like high-density rock, is very conducting, and will have a very strong radar return. Changes in the reflection characteristics of the subsurface, such as layers deposited by geological processes in the ancient history of Mars, will also be visible...

Is 2021 the year that everyone became a collector? Never in the history of collectibles has there been such interest, and the enthusiasm for collecting continues to grow.

Amid this surge, the Certified Collectibles Group® (CCG®) companies certified over 9 million collectibles — one every 3.5 seconds. By adding value, liquidity and confidence, CCG’s expert authentication, grading and encapsulation services helped propel the collectibles markets to new heights.

The CCG companies have now certified nearly 70 million coins, banknotes, comic books, trading cards, sports cards, stamps and other collectibles. To meet the increased demand for expert authentication and grading, CCG added more than 200 employees in 2021, bringing its total worldwide to more than 600 people. CCG also added significantly more space, expanding its Florida headquarters from about 60,000 square feet to more than 100,000 square feet.
