Track of Sand Dredging Boat Off Fort Pierce. |
DJ sent me this. It shows where the sand was being dredged for the Fort Pierce renourishment project. Here is what he said.
Thought it interesting the sand being added to the inlet south beach is coming from this location off shore. The boat goes out there, picks it up then returns to the inlet to pump it onto the beach.
Any chance it may dredge up some relics?
Thanks DJ.
I've found some old things in the dredged sand after previous renourishment proejcts at Fort Pierce Jetty. The most recent was an old flat button was laying not too deep just after the last renourishment project.. I think there is a chance that a few good things will be in that sand this time too.

Archaeologists analyzing a shipwreck stumbled upon by divers in summer 2022 are connecting it to the 1821 Greek Revolution.
It was found in the sea off Fourka in Halkidiki, with two cannons and a one-and-a-half-meter-long rifle on its wooden hull, and seems to have been used during the Revolution...
According to the archaeologists, the research is in an early stage, but the shipwreck is likely to belong to the revolutionary period and to date back to the late 18th and early 19th century. It is also possible that the ship itself played a role in the Greek Revolution and specifically the uprising in Halkidiki...

Now, nearly 73 years later, about 20 students with the University of Central Florida's Department of Anthropology are spearheading a scientific search. Their mission: Research the long-lost blockhouse site and collect remnants and artifacts, adding context to a watershed event in U.S. space history....
If you are interested in Cape Canaveral and the space race, you'll enjoy this long article.
By the way there is a Spacex launch scheduled for after 7:30 tonight.

I'm a little disappointed. Watching the surf chart, the last two or three days, it seems to be slipping. It looks like the peak surf next week might not be quite as big as the earlier predictions seemed to suggest.
We'll see.
Good hunting,
