Hazy Morning On The Treasure Coast. |
It looks like the Treasure Coast might get a bigger surf next week. I went out to this morning to see what the beaches look like now. I wasn't expecting much. The surf was nearly flat this morning. The haze kept it a touch cooler early. Later the haze burned off and the surf increased.

There weren't many people at the beach this morning.
Beach detecting conditions were generally poor.

Down at Walton Rocks there were some shell piles.
Shell Piles At Walton Rocks. |
The shell piles provide an excellent illustration of object classification on the beach. Some shell piles are better than others. Generally in shell piles you might find some sea glass, thin pieces of metal such as copper or aluminum, and maybe some shards or fossils. Piles with bigger shells and stones may contain other some better items. Today I found mostly fossils, copper and sea glass in the shell piles. There were a few other bits of metal.
I always enjoy looking through shell piles even though they generally don't produce many good coins or gold. I was hoping to maybe see a nice old shard or something like that. It has been a good while since I found a good shard.
Here are some examples of the types of things I found in the shell piles today.
Fossil Turtle Scute, Femer(?), Copper, and Sea Glass. |
No great finds, but I always enjoy doing a little browsing.
The piles were eroding away with the incoming tide.
I wasn't expecting to walk so far. I should have taken water. After the haze burned off it got hot.
Away from the shell piles a little 12k marked baby gold ring was found.

Gold baby jewelry was much more common down in the Miami area.

Looks like Larry is still on that northward track. It looks like it might send us a bigger surf in a few days.
Here are the surf predictions.
