While the beach hunting has been slow this summer, some big 1715 Fleet salvage finds have been made this year. One important find is the wing to the Pelican of Piety (shown above).
I've posted a lot about the Pelican of Piety, including the detailed research conducted by Laura Strolia, author of the Marigalera of the 1715 Fleet.
(See The Treasure Beaches Report Direct From Florida's Treasure Coast.: 2/22/15 Report - New Authoritative Research On The Gold Pelican-in-Piety Of The 1715 Fleet. for example.)
The body of the pelican was found off Douglass beach in 2010 by Captain Bonnie Schubert.
If you look at that post, you'll see where the newly found wing goes.
Laura is nearing completion on a new book detailing the Spanish colonial religious artifacts of the 1715 Fleet. I'm eager to see that.
Recently found this salvage season was a gold coin south of Turtle Trail. I believe it is the first 1715 Fleet gold coin found this salvage season. It is valued at around $10,000.
Here are links to those stories.
