11/13/21 Report - Treasure Coast Beaches Building Again. Manatees Endangered. Surf Decreasing.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

Fort Pierce South Jetty Beach Saturday Morning.

I took a look at some beaches along South Hutchinson Island again.  You can see the erosion.  As you probably remember, that beach was renourished not too many months ago.

I did a little detecting, just to check it out, and there were a good number of modern coins even though a lot of the slope was mushy.

John Brooks Beach Saturday Morning.

You can see how the sand had been m oved around at John Brooks.  There was a lot of new sand on the beach front.

John Brooks was very mushy.  You can see the lighter color sand that just piled up on the front beach.

Blind Creek was no better.  That is the first time I've been there for quite a while.

Walton Rocks Saturday Morning.

John Brooks beach was not good either.  The front beach had obviously been building recently and the beach was very convex.  New sand had accumulated all the way up to the dunes.  There were a few surfers there.

Overall, detecting conditions on that part of the Treasure Coast are poor again.

JamminJack was out Saturday morning too.  Here is what he said.

Went out about 8am. Low was around 9am. 2 other detectorists out. Had the beach to myself for most of the time. Nice morning. Wide beach, some scallops, sand packed along midline. Sand leveled out and easy to walk on this time. Only hit was a saw blade to a reciprocal or saw-zaw. No hits rest of the time out!

Florida is experiencing an unprecedented die-off of manatees this year, with 959 documented deaths as of Oct. 1. That’s already more than any full year on record, and colder weather soon to come could bring another wave of deaths in a population that numbers between 7,500 and 10,200 along both Florida coasts, according to state estimates.

Manatee deaths this year will likely double the 593 recorded in 2020, and will far outnumber the latest five-year average of 146 deaths in Florida, according to state figures, with no end to the die-off in sight...

Funny how times have changed.  Here is a Pink Floyd lyrics from 1979.

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave us kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

I could see the point of that in the 1970s and even more today.  What is strange is that it would have been more typical of the counterculture left in the 70s, but now the conservative right are more likely to share the sentiment.

Seems like the surf will be increasing a little again next week.  The tide is flattening out.

Happy hunting,
