An interdisciplinary research team led by the Leibniz Centre for Archaeology (LEIZA) has revealed the secret of a gilded pendant found in 2008 in a medieval waste pit in Mainz's old town. Thanks to non-destructive investigations at the Research Neutron Source Heinz Maier-Leibnitz (FRM II) of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the researchers were able to locate the smallest bone splinters inside the object, which are probably relics...

Two Photos Of Old Brick Fragment Found by Miguel from Mexico. |
Miguel V. asked if this brick fragment he found might be valuable.
Like most collectibles, condition and rarity are important. I'd guess this brick to be 19th or 20th century. Most bricks of this general age are not worth a whole lot, maybe something like $20 if in nice condition and whole. However, the brick should be researched to whatever extent possible. If it can be documented to a shipwreck or has some interesting provenance it might be worth more.
However, if there is one, there are probably more, so it might be most valuable as a clue to a site worth working.
I did some posts on bricks before. Here is one link.
The Treasure Beaches Report Direct From Florida's Treasure Coast.: 9/27/13 Report - Old Bricks and A History of Sebastian
That post also provides a link to a good web site on brick collecting. http://brickcollecting.com/
I'll add a link to another old post that provides information on one interesting brick find, and also some information a Santo Domingo maravedi from the Carlos Joanna period.
Anyone know of any other web sites or experts that Miguel should consult? Or acan anyone provide more information on this brick?

20,000-year-old cave painting 'dots' are the earliest written language, study claims. But not everyone agrees.Various signs in the cave painting are believed to be a type of proto language. I can see it, but it is little more than an interesting hypothesis at this point.
Here are some links for more about that.

I just looked back through the post titles of 2023 and had to change the majority of them from 2022 to 2023. I thought I did better than that this year, but I was wrong.
