Here is a message I've given before, but this time it comes from a great web site about modern U.S. error and variety coins.

People who don’t pay attention to pocket change may very well be handing over thousands of dollars in the form of a single silver quarter.  Check your change!

Finally, modern coins are valuable too!  For instance, check out the West Point Mind Quarters!   This website is a partnered associate and contains affiliate links, which enable me to earn commissions from various partners...

The Varieties, Errors, Varieties and Values web site that provided that message covers coins of the type that pass through your hands almost every day and commonly are worth tens, or hundreds or thousands of dollars.

I don't like the idea that I'm giving away possibly valuable coins away for practically nothing simply because I haven't paid enough attention to the coins in my pocket change, but it is true.   It is just too much trouble to check them all at the level that is necessary to not miss anything good.  Many of the valuable errors and varieties can only be spotted by very careful inspection, and perhaps magnification, as well as detailed knowledge.

But if you are interested in detecting the more valuable coins that pass through your hands, this web site will be very helpful.  It provides great photographs, and detailed descriptions of errors and varieties for many modern coins.  The photo at the top of this post is one example.

If you want to learn more about the errors and varieties found on 1964 Washington Quarters, here is the link.

1964 Quarter Errors, Varieties, & Values (markedmoney.tech)

1964 silver quarter mint errors and varieties exist.  No one knows exactly how many 1964 Washington with the reverse of 1965 quarter dollars were struck, but they’ve been found.  Furthermore, they’re very valuable quarters and not a lot of people know it...

Use the above link to learn more about that.

Or check other coins of you choice. Here is the link for 2009 Licoln cent errors, for example.

2009 Lincoln Cent Errors, Varieties, & Values (markedmoney.tech)

That site goes on to say

"According to PCGS Coin Facts, a 2009 1C Lincoln-Professional graded MS68RD sold for nearly $2000.00.  However, it wasn’t an error, nor designated as a variety.  In other words, it’s valuable because any coin in flawless condition has a dramatic impact on value."

That is an important message. Even modern coins will be valuable if they are "flawless."

This web site with all the information on so many different coins is really an exceptional resource.

Give it a try. Take out your coins and check out a few of them.

Magnification will undoubtedly help you.

That is the beginning of the story.  Below is an excerpt from farther along.

The wind and swells are from the north but will be turning.

The surf won't be big.  The big this week is supposed to be four or five feet Wednesday.

The low tides are little lower.

Good hunting,
