7/8/24 Report - Treasure Map and Other Treasure Coast Treasure News From the 1960s. Golden Dubloon Galleon. Nice Iron Finds.

Written by the Treasureguide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report

The 1964 treasure finds created a lot of excitement on the Treasure Coast.  Above is a map showing protected salvage leases in the Oct. 4, 1964 Fort Pierce News Tribune.  You might be familiar with most of those sites, but maybe not all of them.

Fort Pierce News Tribune, Oct 4, 1964, p. 22 (newspaperarchive.com)

There was a lot of excitement about Treasure Coast treasure finds in 1964 and a lot of treasure articles.  The maturation of treasure salvage, technological advances, the work of the Fisher organization, and multiple hurricanes all led to a lot of treasure being found on the Treasure Coast in 1964.

Below are excerpts from an article that was published in a lot of newspapers around the country in 1965.

And here is the link for the rest of that article.

Here is another clipping from 1964.

Fort Pierce Treasure Articles from Sixty Years Ago.

Notice that the Perdido leases mentioned in the article above were pretty far apart, ranging from miles south of the St. Lucie inlet to just south of Melbourne.

One fellow, hoping to make hay out of the treasure excitement around Fort Pierce in the 1960s created a Galleon Museum.  Here is the 1967 clipping about that.

1967 Newspaper Clipping About the Golden Dubloon.

If you check out the newspaper archives, you'll see a large number of articles about the treasure of the Treasure Coast.  As I may have said, there were many from the 1960s when there was a lot of excitement about the discoveries.

I decided to show a recent find that isn't a metal detector find.  It was found in the basement of an old building along with a few other great items from the past.

Inside Griswold Cast Iron Lid Pat. Feb. 1920.

There is an active cast iron collector community and these sell for hundreds of dollars.  This one is in beautiful condition.  Very beautiful piece in my opinion.

It is heavy too.  The ladies of the twenties weren't wimps.

I also found a sadiron that I thought must weigh over ten pounds.  I thought I took some photos of the iron, but can't find them on my phone now.  Here is an ad though, that gives the shipping weight as 16 pounds.

Sadiron Ad.

It seems to have a base that would weigh a few pounds.  I didn't find the base.  Notice the shipping weight given in the ad is 16 pounds.  They didn't need to go to the gym.

As Beryl nears Texas the surf on the Treasure Coast remains small.
