12/3/20 Report - A Ring Find and Beach Report. Using Magnification to Find Markings and Inspect Finds.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

Nice Silver/Gold-Accented Diamond Chip Ring Find.

I received the following report from Duane who detected nine beaches from Melborne to Vero and found the ring shown above.

Down visiting the Treasure Coast, hunting has been bleak. Lots of new sand from Melbourne down to Vero. Hit 9 spots mostly nothing maybe an occasional piece of aluminum. Best day I found a few coins, lead & a modern silver ring with some 10k gold & diamond chip accents. ☠️Duane

I know some of you have been eager for reports from the northern end of the Treasure Coast, so there you go.

Thanks Duane.

I really appreciate having a good system for magnifying finds.  That has helped me locate hard to see markings that I couldn't have found otherwise.  It also allows me to present good closeup images.

Here is one recent find that provides a good example.  I looked all over this earring, but couldn't find any markings.  I thought it was gold and should be marked.  Finally I inspected the post using good magnifcation and found the very small 14K Israel marks.

Earring Post Marked 14K.

It wasn't easy to see the markings on the silver ring shown below either.   That was partly because of the corrosion.

Silver Ring Marked 925.

Long Word Beginning With D Stamped Over The 925 Mark.

I still can't make out what the word stamped over the 925 is, but it begins with a D, which I think you can see in the above photo.  I couldn't see any of that with the naked eye.

Even worn coins can be hard to make out. The one below is the size of a dime, but I didn't know if it was a dime or some kind of foreign coin. Most of the detail is corroded off.  You can see that it is clad, and you can faintly see the LIB of the word Liberty.  Again, that wasn't easy to see with the naked eye.

Badly Corroded Clad Dime.

I showed this 1926 Buffalo nickel before, but if you look at this side, you can see that it was in mint or near mint condition when it was lost and it did not corrode much after that.

Very Sharp Details Remain on 1926 Nickel.

Take a look at the sharpness of the letters in the words FIVE CENTS.  They show no wear,.

The dime is unusual for the amount and type of corrosion, and the nickel is unusual for the sharpness of the details, especially considering how long it must have been lost.

The water has been high in the Indian River Lagoon for weeks.  It was calm and clear enough for me to take a look one day recently.  I expected to see more down there, but did find one hand blown cork-top bottle.

Well, another mayor has been caught doing what he was telling everyone else to NOT do.  The Austin mayor recorded a message telling people they must stay home while he was on a trip to Mexico with 20 guests.  Another one of a long parade of politicians who thinks he can tell others what to do while he does the opposite.  Sure they can shut down businesses.  They still get paid.   Time to start cleaning house from the bottom up.  The swamp creatures and minions at the bottom protect the parasites at the top.

The surf will remain in the two to three foot range for several days.

The high tides are pretty decent.

The wind was coming from the north for the past two days, but today is more from the east.

I've been doing a lot of holiday stuff lately but hoping to see some better beach conditions before Christmas.

Happy hunting,
