3/6/21 Report - Bigger Surf Coming. Valuable Hobo Nickels. Regrets, I've Had a Few. Pendulum Swings.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

MagicSeaWeed.com.

Well, late tonight Sunday we're supposed to get a NNE wind, and the surf will begin increasing late Saturday night, peaking Sunday and Monday before the wind becomes an east wind.

Expect something like a 4 - 6 or 7 foot surf.  That won't be bad.  I expect that we'll get some erosion.  I don't know how significant it will be.  That depends on several factors.  The tides aren't very big right now.  That won't help.

At least we'll get a couple days of front beach stirring, and certainly some front beach cutting.

It won't be anything big, but it will be enough of a change to make the beaches a little more interesting.

Ralph “Bazoo” Winter, editor of Bo Tales, the journal for the Original Hobo Nickel Society, reports in the spring 2021 issue that the auction result is 31 percent higher than the last record set in 2013...

Hobos like Wiegand and fellow hobo artist George Washington “Bo” Hughes traveled the country by rail during the first half of the 20th century, catching rides in box cars. The carved coins were often sold by the artists or exchanged directly for food and/or lodging along the way.

Hobo nickels carved by Wiegand and Hughes are highly sought after by knowledgeable collectors...

Here is the link for more about that.

There are two things I keep regretting.  First is not keeping good detailed records on finds.  And secondly, not keeping finds stored individually in separate safe containers so that there is no contact between items of different types, and keeping them from any kind of pressure or stress, and having each item separately labeled.  I've found that even stacks of items can put result in enough pressure or stress to damage items over time.

It didn't seem to me that all of that was necessary, but after decades go by you find out that you've forgotten things, and items that you thought would not deteriorate were damaged in some way.  Sometimes items that you didn't think were very significant, when you learn more about them (which can take a long time) suddenly become very significant.

Down the road you might want to know exactly where and when and under what conditions items found.    And you definitely don't want to find items damaged during storage.  Things you might think won't be damaged can be damaged.  That is what I've learned.

Store items with more information than you think you'll ever need, and store them more carefully than you think would ever be necessary.

Present events keep reminding me of the past.  Seems something like fifty year cycles.  Here is part of a 1968 Beatles song.

Aaahhh!
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out?
Don't you know it's gonna be
All right
All right
All right...

You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You'd better free your mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao
You ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be,,,

Youngsters think they are so smart, and some of them never learn any better.
