12/22/23 Report - Fascinating Lead Christmas Token Found by Detectorist. Winter Solstice is Upon Us. Birthday Bill.

It represents the spirit of Christmas and it has been lost for 600 years - until now.

The National Trust has revealed the discovery of ‘boy bishop token’ found by a detectorist in the grounds of Oxburgh Hall, near Swaffham.

Following a European Christmas tradition from medieval and early Tudor times, a choirboy at Bury St Edmunds Abbey was named ‘boy bishop’ and gave tokens to the poor to spend.

Historians believe someone from Oxborough village made the journey to Bury for festive ceremonies at the abbey where they were given the token, and then may have lost it after they returned home...

Just a couple days I saw part of an episode on Oak Island TV show where they found a lead bale seal.  It wasn't difficult to see that it was probably a lead and not a coin, but they didn't seem to see that until it was examined in the lab.  I bet that a lot of the viewers could see it wasn't a coin just seeing it on the TV screen half covered with dirt.  I couldn't figure out why they didn't knock some of the dirt off of it when they picked it up.  Maybe they were just trying to create suspense or something.  But any viewer could see one thick edge and part of one side, which was enough to tell that it wasn't a coin.

(CNN) — Since the summer solstice back in June, the days have grown shorter and the nights have grown longer in the Northern Hemisphere. But that's about to reverse itself.

Winter solstice, the shortest day of the year and the official first day of winter, is on Thursday, December 21, this year (well, for the vast bulk of the Americas anyway). How the solstices - along with the spring and fall equinoxes - work has fascinated people for thousands of years.

It's a day when science intermixes with ancient traditions around the world...

One local detectorist dug over 1,300 targets and 16 gold rings over a few days recently.

Do you know someone born on Oct. 18, 1956?

I've been checking serial numbers on bills for a while now, but I've found very few "Birthday" bills.  Here is one that I just found.

That would be a good gift for the right person.

Surf Chart From Surfguru.com.

We still have a pretty high surf, but the winds are very easterly.

There was however finally a negative low tide.  That combined with a decreasing surf might be welcome if you've been wanting to get out a little farther.

Good hunting,
