1/13/21 Report - Some Nice Finds. Inland Sites, Battlefields, and Boats. Reader Emails. Big Tides.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

Nice Group of Finds Made by Christopher N.

Here are some great finds made by Christopher N.  You can see some buttons, musket balls and a few other nice finds.

I'd really like to get a better look at that great button on the bottom left.

Thanks Chris.  Very nice finds.

A few days ago I mentioned that when the beach isn't producing anything old, you always have the option of trying an inland site.

I received some emails in response to my recent post on Indian River steamships.

Here is one of those from Al. C.

We recently camped at River Ranch and I googled up some info on the history of the area. I learned about a ghost town on the banks of the Kissimmee River called KICCO. Maybe you have heard of it. Pretty interesting. Abandoned in the 20’s or 30’s once the paved roads started coming through. I thought it would be a great place to detect but it has been turned into a Wildlife Management Area and there is no removal of any artifacts. I checked it out and signs clearly verify that. I wonder if anyone who reads your blog looked into this site before it was off limits? I went there and saw an old sidewalk and other signs of habitation.

My original reason of mentioning it was though that the only way in or out of this town was steamship back in the day. There is quite a bit of info online.

Ron J. also appreciated the post on Indian River steamboats.  Here is what he said.

Thanks for your post about the steamboats. Have you read the book "Barefoot Mailman?. I think the Rockledge could be the Hotel or boat mentioned in the book. It is good history of the south east Fl coast when Miami had only 6 houses.

Your steamboat post reminded me of another local boat I came across a few years ago, the USS St. Sebastian.

Please see link below.

One of my favorite posts of a few years ago was the short video of your model Train running under your Christmas tree. I really liked that and often think about it.

You observations of current events in Washington are spot on true.

They say that you only see what you want or expect to see and the best place to hide something is in plain sight.

The media manipulation has blinded lots of folks and has brainwashed them to the point of what we have now.

Your observations of the beach are a great example of how some folks are. Some see only sand and water and others see erosion, dips, scallops, and buildup. In politics some see only what they have been told to see by the TV.

Some are loosing the ability to think.

I am really appreciative of all the time and effort you put into this blog.

Many Thanks,

USS Saint Sebastian

On the far western side of the Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park, in Jupiter, Florida, stands what arborists say is an oak tree that is roughly 300 years old. It is a living reminder of the tragedy encountered by members of the Seminole Tribe who died during the last battle of the Second Seminole War on January 24, 1838...

Here is the link for the rest of that story.

Did you ever run into an overly zealous security guard or park ranger or mabye even someone with no actual authority that just got up on the wrong side of the bed?  It can happen.

Don't make trouble for yourself.  It can usually be avoided.  Jesus told his disciples, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16, KJV).

You probably understand easily enough the reference to wolves, and probably also the reference to doves, but you might find the suggestion of being anything like a serpent a little difficult. The serpent doesn't really have a good reputation in the Bible, so what are we being told?

You can usually get a better understanding of the words of Jesus by referring back to the Old Testament.

The serpent is introduced in the creation story, where the serpent is described as the "shrewdest" of the wild beasts (Jewish Study Bible: Tanakh Translation). While the King James New translation of Matthew 10:16 reads "wise as serpents," the NIV translation reads "shrewd as serpents."

So what does it mean to be shrewd, and does knowing that help us out?

Shrewd means something like being astute or having sharp powers of judgement. And if you look up "astute" you will find something like being able to accurately assess situations or people and turn it to one's advantage, which is exactly what I found online.

You can often avoid trouble by doing just that.  Carefully and accurately assess situations, use good judgement, and do no harm.

I've heard it said people will be surprised when we find out who was arrested for storming the Capital Building.  I will indeed be surprised if they say anyone other than the Proud Boys, the Klan or other right-wing groups, who were also blamed for violence at the BLM protests.  Those are the guys that didn't bother to completely cover their faces like the pros.  They weren't very shrewd.

The intelligence agencies say they knew violence was coming before January sixth, which is when the inciting speech and storming occurred, so why were the grounds not secured?  You can answer that for yourself.

The surf is calm but we are having some big high tides and some low low tides.

Happy hunting,
