Above is a perfectly preserved 2,300-year-old gold ring found under a City of David parking lot.

It is a mall Hellenistic-era ring set with a red garnet, and ,was likely made for a child’s finger..
.

The ring, which “since its last use 2,300 years ago, accumulated neither rust nor suffered other weatherings of time,” dates from the early Hellenistic era in Jerusalem, around the 3rd or 4th century BCE.

A few days ago I posted a Red Dot Champion lapel pin.  I've found a good number of lapel pins over the years, and I wish I'd kept them together.  Generally speaking, lapel pins are modern and not very interesting, but some are older and some can be interesting for other reasons.  One I liked finding was gold plated example from a WWII R & R hotel site up near Mobile Bay where the hotel had burned down.  I can't find that one right now.  I decided I should gather those together.  That is one tip I would give anyone.  Store similar items together, or in more general terms classify and systematically store your finds.  You might start with a small collection, but it will grow.

Another of my all-time favorite lapel pins is this Heisman Trophy pin.

1991 Heisman Club Lapel Pin Find.

This lapel pin labeled "1991 Heisman Club" probably belonged to a member of the club, initially called the Downtown Athletic Club, that began awarding the best college football player of the nation with the iconic Heisman trophy.

According to what I've found the "club" would not be the group of winners or even voters, although that is possible.

Before the now-famous stiff-arm design, the Club Trophy Committee agreed that the traditional cup or bowl seemed too commonplace, lacking in distinction, and not emblematic of the athletic talent that was to be celebrated. It was decided instead that the trophy should be the bronze embodiment of a muscular footballer driving for yardage. To create the trophy, the DAC commissioned Frank Eliscu, a well-known sculptor and National Academy of Design Prize winner...
