6/13/24 Report - Reader Ring Find for ID. Artifacts at the Bottom of an Ancient Well. Maybe Tropical Development Soon.

Written by the TreasureGuide for the exclusive use of the Treasure Beaches Report.

I do need some help on Identifying this unmarked silver ring (not plated) that looks like it was crudely hand made hundreds of years ago but I think it was intended to look that way and is not actually old.

Why is it not an old shipwreck ring?

It wasn’t found anywhere near a shipwreck site. It was found where you’d expect rings to commonly be dropped most likely a new drop. It had little to no corrosion or tarnish cleaned up well and shines. Pattern looks familiar to me but I have searched many many ring pages and cannot place it. Has anyone else found a ring of this design?

I bought one of those coin magnifiers you recommended for looking for jewelers' marks and have been having fun with it but no mark on this ring.

Thank You

Mark G.

Let me know if you can find one like this.

A loop or some kind of magnification is a must for any detectorist.

Artifacts Found iu Ancient Well.

When archaeologists excavated a well in Ostia Antica, an ancient city about 15 miles southwest of Rome, they found more than just water. Dozens of rare artifacts were uncovered at the bottom of the 10-foot-deep structure, according to an announcement from Italy’s culture ministry.

The well is located near the Temple of Hercules in a sacred area of the archaeological site. When the excavation began, it was still filled with water. The well-preserved artifacts, most dating to the first and second centuries C.E., were lodged in oxygen-poor mud, which had helped protect them from the elements. The trove is providing researchers with new insights into imperial life and cult rituals.

“Restoration work has proven to be a unique opportunity to study and deepen knowledge of the functions and activities that took place in the sanctuary,” says Massimo Osanna, director of museums at Italy’s culture ministry, per a translation by La Brujula Verde's Guillermo Carvajal...
