Lead Mystery Object Found
Photo and find by Kris N.

Kris N sen this photo of an item he  found "up in northern Florida on one of the islands.
He says it is made of lead, and he think has designs on it.  He wondered what it might be.

I asked for size and perhaps a rubbing or better image of the designs.

I also tried to bring out the designs some.  I think they show a little better in the following enhanced photo.

Let me know what you think it is.  Somebody will know, or all of us together will figure it out. Send me your thoughts.

I'll post size or any other information as soon as I get it.

I often talk about the Sedwick auctions, but Stacks and Bowers is another numismatic auction company that offers fine coins.  In fact, some call it the first coin auction company.

The coin shown immediately below is one of several Potosi coins in their current auction.

LOT DESCRIPTION
BOLIVIA. "Royal" Presentation 8 Reales, 1686-P VR. Potosi Mint. Charles II. PCGS EF-40.

KM-R26. Weight: 26.57 gms. Quite RARE when encountered this attractive and well preserved, the present specimen offers deep toning offset by lighter highlights and just a few areas of typical striking weakness. Assuredly, one of the better examples from this series which one can hope to acquire.

Estimate: $4,000 - $6,000.

Happy Columbus Day or whatever, depending upon where you live.  As I mentioned last week, Colarado, the Rocky Mountain High on Pot State, replaced Columbus day with Cabrini Day, but there are other states that do not observe Columbus Day.  Some simply call it something else. Those states include Alaska. Hawaii. Oregan. South Dakota and Vermont. Hawaii, for example, calls the second Monday of October, Discoverer's Day in recognition of the Polynesian discoverers.  Alaska, Oregon and Vermont call it Indigenous People's Day.

I think ancient aliens discovered those places first - just kidding, but hey!

Gold prices are not far off the thirty-year highs and silver this morning was just above $25/oz.

There is not much activity on the NHC map right now.  I checked Ventusky.com to see what the yellow X might do, and the models don't seem to show it doing much of anything.

The surf will be only about a foot most of this week, but increase next weekend.
