North Hutchinson Island Near Ocean Drive Park This Morning. |
I went out this morning to check some beaches. Seaway Drive was somewhat flooded although most cars made it through.
When I got to John Brooks it was closed, as was Frederick Douglass. That was around 10 AM.
Later a few cars parked outside the gates at John Brooks and walked in.
Walton Rocks was closed too.
The river was up close to A1A and there was still some debris in the road.
Ocean Drive Park and the other parks north John Brooks were open.
The water had been high, but I didn't see any cuts.
Small Erosion To Dune. |
Then I drove to Vero.
The first bridge over to Vero was closed. The northern bridge was open.
Around 11 or 12, Turtle Trail was closed. Seagrape Trail too.
Wabasso, Golden Sands and Treasure Shores were closed too.
Ambersands was open. There were several detectorists there.
Ambersands Beach. |
Ambersands Beach Thursday Around Noon. |
There were detectorists detecting north and south of the beach access at Ambersands.
Scott B. was one of those at Ambersands. He sent this photo.

They opened Seagrape around 12 or 1. Many detectorists showed up there quickly.

Joe D. was more to the north. Here is what he said.
Drove as far south as Turtle Trail! Everything closed North of their, except Bonsteel (for now)😵
Several detecting there, but still mushy! But dunes have been hit! Still in renurshment sand on dunes! Access is tilted about 30° and will either be ripped off tonight, and/or blocked off, no doubt!

Many detectorists headed south and walked down to Turtle Trail. I don't know what it looked like down there but everywhere I went today the beaches looked about the same. The water had been high, but no cuts. The dune cliffs were eroded in the Vero area, but in the areas that I saw, there was mostly renourishment sand showing on the cliffs. Only at a few spots was there any older sand showing on the cliffs.
There were some very good finds made in the past day or two, but at undisclosed beaches other than the areas I talked about today. Included were escudos, reales, buckles and spikes.
Many beaches were still closed today. Hopefully more beaches will be open tomorrow.
Good hunting,
