11/8/2020 Report - Eta Brings More Wind and Surf to The Treasure Coast. People Making More Finds Even Before Peak Surf Arrives.

As you can see out the window, there is plenty of wind today.  Eta will be passing over the keys and then out into the Gulf.

According to MagicSeaWeed, the surf is getting bigger, and will be peaking around midnight tonight

There will be a slight ENE swell part of the day, and then it will shift back to a more easterly direction.  Those little direction shifts will cause the beach to wobble.  That is what I call it when the low and high spots move, but the average sand depth remains about the same.

From Friday to Saturday there was a little change in the shape of one beach although not a lot of overall erosion.  I observed several markers along the way and some spots accumulated more sand while others were lower.  That often happens, but it is not easy to observe if you don't have some markers such as rocks or posts to measure the change in sand level.  Even a little increase or decrease can make a big difference.  A few inches will make some areas unproductive while other areas become productive.  It can be only a few yards one way or the other.

Here is a simple illustration.  It isn't very good but I hope it helps.

More finds were being made at Wabasso recently.

Wabasso Saturday

DJ visited Wabasso yesterday, and so did Nick A.  Nick made the following finds.

Wabasso Finds by Nick A.

One of the things Nick found was a nice shiny fake escudo.

DJ said there is a mark on the seawall that he uses to gauge the sand at Wabasso, and at that spot the sand seemed to be a foot lower this morning.

He also visited Turtle Trail this morning and found that the sand was up to the bottom step.

And here is the beach at Tracking Station Sunday morning.

John E. found the following silver US coins Saturday.  One is a silver quarter and the other appears to be a Walking Liberty half.  The photo on the right shows the reduced thickness of the silver quarter as compared to a clad quarter.

John E. also found the following corroded Walking Liberty quarter in "orange sand."

Both the quarter and half were found in orange sand.
